24th June 2018: MediSieve Ltd., a spin out from University College London, developing a blood filtration device for the treatment of Malaria, Sepsis and Leukaemia, has closed a £1.75m Series A round. The deal included a £632,000 investment by private capital network 24Haymarket.
2nd May 2018: Invizius Ltd., a spinout from University of Edinburgh, has closed an £0.5M seed round. Invizius is commercialising years of research by biologist Dr Andy Herbert and his team, who believe they have found a way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease among patients undergoing long-term dialysis.
1st May 2018: Novosound Ltd., the first spinout from University of the West of Scotland has closed a £1.5M seed round. The company manufactures patented, low-cost, disposable, ultrasound sensors technologyprintable ultrasound sensors for medical, dental and industrial applications.
30th April 2018: MIRICO Ltd. has closed a £3.5M B-round investment. The company, a spinout from STFC's RAL Space Department, produces equipment for high precision sensing of gases using next generation laser techniques.
8th January 2018: Iron Ocean Ltd., the Dundee based start-up developing and manufacturing a range of advanced materials engineered to deliver essential life saving heat at specific cold temperatures, has completed an £0.2M seed round of investment.
31st December 2017: PlayerData Ltd., the sports technology start-up out of University of Edinburgh, has closed a seed round of investment to fund the completion of the development of its first product. PlayerData's EDGE technology uses sensors embedded into a base layer garment to inform athletes of their sporting performance.
20th December 2017: Amiqus Resolution Ltd., has raised a £0.4M seed round, including investment from the San Francisco-based Fifth Era Fund. Amiqus ID's document validation, sanctions screening and anti-money laundering checks makes client onboarding compliance simple, efficient and secure for a wide range of regulated professions.
20th December 2017: Edinburgh-based Shot Scope Technologies has raised £1.6M, bringing its total raised to date to £4.5M. The firm, which creates a performance-tracking watch for golfers, received funds from high-net-worth individuals, Scottish Investment Bank, Equity Gap and Old College Capital – the investment fund of University of Edinburgh.
28 November 2017 – GE Healthcare has announced the acquisition of Puridify Ltd., a bioprocessing spinout from UCL that is developing FibroSelect, a nanofiber-based purification technology for biopharmaceutical production, for an undisclosed fee.
28th August 2017: Cutitronics Ltd., a spin-out from the University of Strathclyde, has announced a significant investment from FTSE 100 company Croda International plc. The investment underpins a strategic partnership which marks a significant milestone for the Scottish skin care start-up’s ambitious growth and development plans.
21st June 2017: Enterobiotix Ltd., a biotech company founded by James McIlroy, a final year medical student at the University of Aberdeen, focused on using the body’s own micro-organisms to prevent and treat disease has announced that it has closed an £0.5M seed round investment.
27th April 2017: Azul Optics Ltd., a spinout from University of Bristol developing an ophthalmic instrument "to enable rapid and cost-effective screening” of patients to determine their susceptibility to age-related macular-degeneration (AMD), announces it has closed a seed round of £0.6M.
17th February 2017: Krotos Ltd, the Edinburgh producer of next-generation audio tools for the entertainment industry, has secured a significant seed round investment led by Leslie Benzies, the award-winning video game producer and designer, and Old College Capital.
